Sounds like a rule needs to change since you have a solution ready.
Also this "test" seems odd here. If it's some test then ask for clarification why it was supplied with bold there.

I have selected a multilevel numbering scheme. If I make the Roman numeral "I." bold - the following text is bold too. How do I make the text UNBOLD. I know I can select and make it unbold with direct formatting, but HAVE TO find the exact location where to change it WITHOUT direct formatting.
I have a test at a law firm (been working in law firms for 20 years) using Word 2007 and no direct formatting is allowed. HELP!
