Word 2007 footer macro

Feb 21, 2008 9:29PM PST

I want to create an icon in normal.dot which when clicked auto enters the path and file name in the footer. Steps would be:
1. create a document
2. save the document somewhere
3. click the icon and have the macro insert the path and filename.

Why not create the NORMAL.DOT that has this in it?

I think your research into what NORMAL.DOT is and does should give you 98% or maybe 100% of what you want to achieve.

Adding to what Bob says ...

I wouldn't change normal.dot, but create a custom template containing a footing with the documents name (that's just a field). Then to create such a document, use that template.
That's what templates are for.
