Word 2007 Compatibility

After recently upgrading to Office 2007, I have discovered that I can no longer open Word documents that I created from 1992-1995. I get a referral to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article #922850. It appears that I have lost access to three years of work that I created. Is this the case?

Install Open Office. It can co-exist with Office 2007 just fine. Open the document with Open Office, save it as an RTF or experiment with other types (your work) and you'll be able to open the RTF just fine.
