There are no less than 3 dates to a file and internally it can have more. So be sure you know the Windows 3 dates and then test what this Word properties displays. I would not be surprised to find a 4th date.
Q2 You could turn on the track changes or just put a note in to your self and mark it non-printing.

Hi,
I'm trying to find out when I first started editing a file.
This file was first copied from an existing file to serve as a template. In properties/details, "content created" has a date next to it.
Q.1. Is this the date I created the file, or would it be the date I first edited the file?
Q.2. If the latter, and if the first edit was simply to change the title on the first page before I began editing some months later, is there a way I can trace when and what I edited?
