Word 2000 Mail Merge

Feb 7, 2008 12:05PM PST

What does this mean? "Word could not open data.doc as a data or header source because it is the active merge main document" I have a data document and want to create labels. When I click on Mail Merge it comes up with the helper menu already filled out. The edit buttons get me no place. How can I clear all of this without losing my data and start over again and using my data as a "get data" Help

Word 2000 Mail Merge

I will try that, I think even tho I have 2000 and instructions are for 2003, I can figure it out. But, I can't seem to get rid of all my attempts to do this. They keep locking me out. What am I missing?

Merge Word 2000

The website you give me was excellent. The only problem I am having is getting rid of all the old tries to merge where I have a data file as the main document. I can't find anyplace to click on to start over.

Hi Lynn and sorry for the delay.

I have rarely used mail merge and have not come across this problem myself, so I am not sure how you can resolve it.

Hopefully others here will be able to help you.

Thanks, Lynn

I finally solved the problem by cut and paste, thereby making a new document.
