Word 2000

Feb 4, 2010 1:53AM PST

Hi, I could do with some help from the experts.
My problem is with putting tables next to each other and wrapping text around them.
So far I have been using Word 97 and discovered that this can't do it.
Somewhere I read that Word 2000 could do it, so I promptly went onto ebay and bought, what I thought would be Word 2000, but I got "Works 2000" which gives me " Works Word Processor " which doesn't even seem to give me the same facilities as I got from Word 97.
The paperwork that came with the CD indicates that Word 2000 and Money 2000 should be on the same CD, but I cannot find either.
Now my questions are : Should Works 2000 contain Word 2000 and if not, how can I get hold of a program that will deal with tables in the way I want to use them.
Sorry if this sounds idiotic to you but I am still a beginner when it comes to these things.
Many thanks for your help.
PS I am using XP, but also have an old PC with 98SE

I'm going with no.

But did you try Open Office from www.openoffice.org?

I know that table formatting may be troublesome so the bottom line is to keep trying.

Hi Bob
I have tried open office, but this is no different from Word 97.
I'll keep on trying.
Thanks

You didn't tell what you tried.

Here I put the table in a text box and have the document flow around the text box.

I'm left to think you didn't try that.

I've never tried this, and maybe I misunderstand your requirements, but have you thought of using Newspaper Columns?

Word from 97 onwards allows formatting the page into newspaper style format. Can you then add tables to each column?

Newspapers often add tables with text beside them, so it was just a thought.

As to your eBay purchase, there is no official CD, (Microsoft), that includes Works and Word, so if this is what was advertised, it would appear to be incorrect.

No, Works isn't Word. Although some versions of Works come with it.

As we can't see what's on your CD, we can't tell if it contains Word or Money. You're the only one who can tell. Keep searching.

For your particular problem, I think you can get quite a good result in Word 97 by working with columns and putting your tables inside frames.
