Amazing, and all done by muscle control of chromatophores
by Ziks511 / June 11, 2013 6:43 PM PDT

in the skin; the green which is kind of default encounters pink glasses, and tiny muscles contract the green chromatophores and allow the pink ones to blossom, and so oon and so on and so on.

do they always freeze
by James Denison / June 12, 2013 12:58 AM PDT

and wait for the color change? I wonder if changing color too often bothers them since he seemed to grow more agitated as he changed, wanting to move away from it all. Can they change to different colors lengthwise as well as they do laterally?

I have to think it's a Photoshopped fake

From what I understand, the color change is slow and also requires some mood change on the part of the lizard. The color is also too close to that of the plastic glasses so I suspect some use of layers or color cloning technique. I'm not that good with Photoshop tools but this looks to be manipulated and not natural.

The video could have been speeded-up though

Check out "nature videos" as they tend to freeze and/or sorta rock back and forth then take the next step. It seems much of their walking is calculated as it were. I have seen octopus videos make rather fast changes to sorta explain their modes, especially the blue ring octopus.

The chameleon does change but I do believe that repeated changes can wear on the animal. It does take some effort and not necessarily due to environmental reasons. Its trying to communicate something like the octopus. Maybe, the animal is saying, "I'm cool, dude".

If that's Photoshop then someone took a lot of time for very little result, but again some people have plenty of play time. -----Willy Happy

A side note

I remember visiting a friend's house way back in time. We were talking but I thought there was something odd in the room, but couldn't figure it out, it was only a feeling. We were leaving and then it became known why I felt that way. A cat dropped from the book shelf and landed by us in order to leave too. I saw where the cat came from hardly believed it, as the space there was so small. But, the friend said, he would find the cat there now and then and hadn't noticed for sometime himself. The spot was an empty binder. -----Willy Happy
