Won't click on links

Mar 8, 2006 12:24PM PST

I have a 4 year old Sony Vaio computer. For the last year I have not been able to click on the links in my email. I'm using Windows XP and Outlook Express. It used to work and I can still click on the links in web pages but not emails.
I have been to the microsoft website but didn't see anything like my problem and I've been to my security center under accessories and changed my settings there but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Joy

I'm going to try this right now. I looked in this place and there is nothing when I click the open box, but I'm a little confused about what I'm supposed to say for the path direction.

Outlook Express is a favorite target for people who run various email scams. They will create a link that LOOKS legitimate, and will take you to a site that LOOKS very much like ebay or paypal or a bank's website, but in reality the information is going to a bunch of crooks looking for bank account info to clean you out.

Outlook Express, more than any other email client, has had a whole string of bugs that make this sort of thing easier for crooks. Which doesn't even get into the bugs in Outlook Express that made it an ideal target for sending email worms from. Or the aspects of Outlook Express that result in your getting more spam.

Outlook Express is a liability to be using. There are literally dozens of other email clients out there. I would highly advise looking into these and using one of those instead. I'd recommend Mozilla Thunderbird myself, but you can make your own decision. Whatever the case, regardless of email client, don't just blindly click on links in messages. Even those that seem to come from friends or relatives. Copy and paste any links by highlighting the text, then manually paste it into the browser. That extra couple of steps could potentially save you hundreds to thousands of dollars.

I'm going to try Thunderbird, it couldn't be any worse. I'm already using Mozilla for my browser, it seems to be a lot faster then Internet Explorer. Thank you
