great southern treat with cornbread, soaked in pot "liquor". Sometimes called "swamp cabbage" although that's actually something else.

Corn bread and pinto bean soup

Drop a square of the corn bread into the soup. If the soup contains some chunks of old briny Virgina ham, it's all the better.

a spoon of instant coffee into the usual 1# bag of dry beans while they are cooking. Really adds to the flavor.
