Dec 2, 2005 5:34AM PST

Are there any media players that can play Windows Media Video and other non-Mac formats available for the iMac?

1) Windows Media Viewer http://www.microsoft.com
2) VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html
3) MplayerOSX http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/
4) RealPlayer http://www.real.com/player/?src=realplayer

The ones above all have free versions.
VLC and MPlayerOSX will play almost anything
RealPlayer likes to phone home a lot.

Flip4mac http://www..flip4mac.com isn't free, but it will alow you to open most WMV files right in Quicktime, and you can edit or resave in a new format.

It ain't pretty, but untill Steve gets tired of selling audio on the web and does a real update to Quicktime, it's what works.

WMP

I don't know about anyone else, but WMP ran horribly on my Mac. :S It would try to open and just sit with the wheel spinning forever, and sometimes it would open. I finally just uninstalled it. It was a joke.

is a total waste of Bandwidth on the Mac.
That's the problem with proprietary software that does not meet any accept international standards.
