Interesting. Just the same way that Windows media player 10 cannot be uninstalled.

Unfortunately, people use the wmv format quite a bit now.
You use the Microsoft video editors.
One reason Microsoft is so touchy about WMV is Digital Rights Management. If you can lock out developers from a format, you can keep your DRM secure (for awhile).
