WMP54G doesn't see as many networks as my laptop does

by parallelepipeds / September 28, 2009 10:20 AM PDT

I recently purchased a Linksys WMP54G Wireless G PCI Adapter for my desktop computer. I usually see about 15 wireless networks when I use my HP Pavilion DV2 laptop, but after installing the wireless desktop card and installing it, I was only able to see one available network. The network I'm trying to connect to should be there... in fact, I'm using it right now for internet access so I can ask this question.

Did I purchase the wrong type of wireless desktop card? Anything I can do to connect to the network? I'm literally looking at all of the properties for the network I want to connect to via selecting properties from the wireless network list on my laptop.

Thanks and sorry for the n00b question.

What is managing that connection?

Windows or the Linksys utility? Do you have it set to find all available networks?

I know to not fret much.

I have a few laptops. One sees more networks than the other because of both settings and what appears to be a better wifi solution in that unit. The same story here. It doesn't mean much more than what it means.
