wmp will not reconize mp3s and now windows will not either

Aug 24, 2009 4:09PM PDT

i am used to just dragging music where i want it. well one time wmp opened and i let it sync with my mp3 player. now windows will only recognize the songs i loaded with wmp. it shows the space is still taken up on the player but will not open it, recognize, nothing. the songs still play fine on the player but now i cannot do anything with them. is wmp some kind of virus. grrr.
a friend of mine had the same problem. after letting wmp open her mp3 player it now says it must be formatted and the music that is still on it will not play.

Check player settings

Look for a setting in your player to change PC connection type. Usually a choice of MSC (removable drive) or MTP (media device). MSC or similarly named option lets the computer treat your player as an external removable drive without any software being needed on the PC.
