WMP 11 Causing Problems with Firefox

May 23, 2006 11:49AM PDT

I recently installed the beta of Windows Media Player 11. Now, when I run it and Firefox at the same time, Firefox often crashes. It seems to disappear, and I try to reopen it, but receive a message saying that Firefox is already running. The only way to restart Firefox then is to do Ctrl-Alt-Del and end the process, and then click on Firefox. Any solutions besides uninstalling WMP 11?

I do not have WMP 11,but this is what i found.

Change back to "Automatically detect settings" reboot.

Well, it is a beta.

There are other issues being noted so I see the solution as "go back to what worked."

Perhaps a coincidence...

I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.3 and WMP11 side-by-side without problems, so Microsoft hasn't become that anti-Firefox...yet. I'd try uninstalling WMP11 using Add/Remove programs (you'll find a note here) and see if the problem is resolved. If so, then try reinstalling WMP11 and see if the problem returns. If uninstalling WMP11 did not resolve the problem, I'd say it's just a coincidence, and that the problem is a corrupted Firefox profile. For information on handling a corrupted Firefox profile, click here.

Hope this helps,
John

If my problems continue, I will certainly heed your advice. Thanks again.
