WMP 10 doesn't recognize my DRM licenses

Dec 24, 2005 3:05AM PST

I recently downloaded 3 songs from Napster, but when I tried to play them in WMP 10, I got the message "error occurred while verifying the license" After about a week of back and forth discussions with Napster tech support, I still cannot play not only these tracks, but most of the other tracks I previously downloaded form various music download services. In an attempt to fix this problem, I tried the following:
1. Used DRM restore, resulting in an error while running setup.
2. uninstalling and re-installing WMP via Windows components add/remove.
3. restoring the contents of my License Management folder from a back-up file.
The only other solution I can think of is to re-format my hard drive. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Cut bait and run.

Toss it out and mark it as a lesson learned that DRM is still an idea in beta testing. For me, I stick to CDs, CDEX and MP3s. Never had the issue to fix on my own machines.

Try this DRM update...
Dec 24, 2005 5:43AM PST

I had a similar problem a while back, where despite having a valid license, I continuously received that error message. After reinstalling WMP10, downloading the latest version from Microsoft, acquiring new licenses, I finally got it working by installing a DRM update for WMP10 that was released in February. Apparently the update is not included in even the most recent WMP download and does not come via a Windows update, or at least it didn't for me. Just click here to download, reboot, and see if WMP10 suddenly recognizes your licenses.

Hope this helps,
John

Sounds a little severe

Reformatting your hard drive sounds a little severe. Have you tried any other music players? Can you restore your old version?

Fortunately, Mouserama's DRM update solution did the trick. Thanks for the input.
