WMA 96kps or MP3 128 kps ..which to use for space saving?

Sep 12, 2005 11:45AM PDT

I want to convert alot of my cds to a format that gives good sound but also space saving to cram alot onto my 2g player.(mp3 or wma support only). I think WMA at 64kps sounds Ok but I do desire a bit better sound. Would going up to WMA 96kps make a difference or should I go with MP3 128kps ?

I mostly have rock and pop music with some new age if that helps.

96kHz VBR WMA

I've done a lot of testing on this since I've got a small memory 256K player. Although I prefer the Ogg codec instead of MP3 or WMA, most players don't do Ogg.

Forget MP3, I found that the WMA 96kHz VBR setting to be the best compromise for smallest size and good audio.

Try the EAC ripper and set compression to "external" Microsoft WMA9 codec.

I wish they would let you edit your responses.

Not that it matters much but my message above should read:

"I've got a small memory '256MB' player."
