Wireless won't work even after third router. HELP !!!

by ssly1 / March 27, 2008 12:46 AM PDT

I am on my third router now trying to get wireless to work with my Gateway notebook internal wireless adapter. I have called the routers' tech support and my DSL tech support; but after hours on the phone, none know how to fix it.

They just tell me there must me a software or an auto update change that is stopping it from working. I have even updated the notebook wireless adapter driver from www.gateway.com . This third router also came with an USB wireless adapter. which got the wireless networking to work on my second desktop computer, but of course, it won?t work on my Gateway notebook.

On my notebook, it is receiving the message from the router because I can see it and click on connect and
then it says ?Connected to the internet.? However, when I bring up Internet Explorer, I always get the
message, ?This page cannot be displayed.? I even reinstalled Internet Explorer. In diagnostics software I got the
following messages:

If that fails and the reload of the OS fails then go get a WPNT511 card (if that fits your machine) for about 20 bucks at Amazon and fix it for good.

Been there.

In a recent case it was some Compaq. After some deliberate thought about replacing the internal card I thought better of it and used the WPNT511. 20 bucks later it's working better than new.

Wireless not working after thrid router

In reply to: 1 thing then a towel.

I went to your link and that said to download a program that checks to see if my Winsock 2 is corrupted, then I used my USB drive to transfer it to my Notebook computer. When I tried to do the setup a message popped up that said, "The program is not a 32 bit application."
Thanks for you help.

Take that up with Microsoft.

But there is a method on the page to reset the winsock without using any program. That's what I use.

Router x 3 won't work.
by OPLORN / April 26, 2008 9:15 AM PDT

The same thing happened to me. I finally decided to also use the new power supply that came with the new router and guess what...magic! So, it was the cord and or power supply that was bad. I hope this helps.
