Question

Wireless / Wireless Cards

Sep 7, 2016 1:41PM PDT

Currently using a custom-built, Windows 10 computer. My PCIE wireless card is an ASUS PCE-N15 11n. I also have an external USB wireless Linksys WUSB6300 as a back up if needed or for debugging purposes. My issue is: my wifi shows as connected, speed test runs just fine, however, i get sporadic wifi. I will get a very normal connection and then it seems like everything stalls. Pages stall and will not load, pictures will not download, etc. If I wait some unfixed amount of time, the wifi will come back and work for a few moments before returning to its stalled state. I know the wifi from the router is working just fine since my laptop and phone utilize it just fine. Here are things I have tried:

1) A clean install of Windows 10
2) Restarting the computer and router
3) Manually setting the DNS
4) Trying Automatic DNS
5) Checking for update drivers

I am a software developer, so hopefully it will not be like pulling teeth trying to help me. This issue seems to have started with no significant change done on my part (I believe). Please help me with this it's been driving me crazy and pretty much renders my desktop useless until I get it fixed! If you need any other information, please do not hesitate to ask. And thank you for your help!!

Interesting note: google seems to load much quicker (most of the time) compared to recently visited pages.

Picking over the Speccy.

1. I think you have it sleeping at 5 hours. Try hibernate instead as some drivers have issues with sleep. Since resume from hibernate is not much slower, I try this as I work the issues.

2. The 670 GPU is not known for running cool at 170W TDP. So as a test, leave the case cover off.

3. It's a stretch but the WUSB6300 looks to be on the same USB HUB as the Bose audio. If possible try to get it to use the other HUB at 1E1E. This is a stretch and not at all a sure thing.

4. The BIOS looks very outdated. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4153#bios gives me a f20e and yours is F7. I can't tell which rev board you have so there's 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. Select the one that is for your board. This can really matter in what I've run into on W10.

Your choice but I'd get that current.

5. Change your DNS. You are relying on the router and I find that tanks sometimes. Try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Nothing looks particularly bad here.

Making Changes
Sep 9, 2016 9:22AM PDT

I have tried everything except for the BIOS flash (need to grab a thumb drive). But still nothing has fixed the issue.

I took a look manually at my network card driver and it was definitely out of date, I updated the driver and it seems to have helped somewhat but the issue is definitely still present.

I do notice now that google searches always come up instantly but other webpages seem to take a long time / forever to load. This might be because of the manual DNS setting, but something to at least help diagnose it.

It seems like it's taking forever to "resolve the host"?

I also notice that online games will suddenly lose connection to the server, but I can rejoin it after just a few moments.

Any other advice would be much appreciated, I feel like we're making progress!
