Wireless Troubles... Conected. No packets?

Dec 21, 2008 7:00PM PST

I know that there is already another thread on this topic, but I thought that I should start my own so I could get the right information.

Anyway, wireless internet had been working fine for months. Go go 2 days ago, come back home and try to load a web page to find that the page could not be displayed. The wireless says that it is connected, but not receiving packets. I am using the internet now because I have the ethernet cable connected into the back of my laptop...

So yeah, I would like to know how to fix it. Whats happening etc...

My internet provider is Telstra BigPond and im on ADSL +2 and the modem is a SpeedTouch 530. The wireless router is a Linksys WRT54G, which also branches off onto another D-Link router which has a bigger antenna on it so I can get wireless upstairs of my house.
I am running Windows XP.

Thinks to try.

1. Other wireless device (most laptops will do) with this router.
2. This PC with another router (friend, family, work, WiFi hotspot).
3. Reset router (turn off and on). Choose another channel.
4. Try with other router off.
5. Check encryption and password.
6. System restore to 3 days ago.

Together these cover:
- defective router
- defective wireless card
- interference between routers
- setting problem
- accidental change on the laptop

To those that use the now outdated WEP security. I read your post twice and couldn't find what security you use.
