Question

Wireless Stream'g from laptop to tv?

Mar 29, 2016 4:46PM PDT

Besides hard-wiring directly from laptop to tv via the HDMI ports, what's the easiest most inexpensive way to do this wirelessly?

I'm on a Pavillion dv4 notebook w. Win 7, Intel CORE 13, (don't think its Widi compatible), & using a Amazon Fire Stick, if that makes a difference.

Tried that VLC app for Fire Stick, but gave up trying to figure it out.

Here my first HDMI wireless link was 200 so 60 is a good deal too.

I went ahead & ordered a Google Chromecast ($35) & try that out 1st, but will grab the Screenbeam if it falls flat.

I own the Chromecast

And while it is nice and such, I never found it to stream the screen. What you will like about it is if you have a smartphone and how you can do Netflix, YouTube and such.

Answer
Well you can get HDMI cables

cheap at Big Lots and a wired connection is the most stable. If using an HDMI cable all you are doing is outputting to the TV. You don't need comcast or any adapters. In fact nowadays most monitors use display or HDMI to connect to a PC.

Here's how I did it:

-Got / installed Google's Chromecast device.
-(had to install Chrome browser, too)
-from there, I installed Google Cast
-Installed an app called Videostream (this part is a must)
-Chose a video to stream from the laptop video files & it worked like a charm! Nice, clean, stable picture & sound so far.

I've done the direct hard-wire connection via the HDMI cable countless times before & while that method *is* simple, it was a bit inconvenient since I'd need to schlep my laptop over to the tv Every Time to plug in . Why do that again & again when the option is there to stream?

Great find. I'll have to add this to my Chromecast too.

That's an app I didn't find last time round. Cheap fix!
