Question

wireless security network

Sep 5, 2016 1:59PM PDT

Hello, I have a wireless network setup with wireless cameras using a Linksys WRT1900AC. It was connected to the internet via a DSL modem with Century Link. I moved into a new home and CenturyLink installed their combination router/ modem (C2000A). The Linksys wireless network is up and running with six cameras all working and being displayed on a desktop computer using Blue Iris software. The Linksys router is connected to the new Century Link modem/ router and internet access is available on the desktop computer. How can I make the Linksys network visible on the internet? I want to access the cameras on my cell phone as I did in the past using the old Century Link modem and the Linksys router. I had to input each camera address into the Linksys router and related information in order to make them visible on the net. However since the Linksys router is now dependent on the Century Link unit for internet access. Again how can I make the Linksys network visible on the internet? The Century Link technician said the new router/ modem combo uses DHCP. Does this make sense? I don't expect anyone to tell in detail how to accomplish this. Is there somewhere I can reference information on this?

I'm sorry I think I meant to say Dynamic DNS.

Yes and this may be upsetting.

The setup you have is a router behind a router and unsupportable. While I have a phrase for you to google which is "How to use a router as a WAP?" the current setup is unsupportable and I never offer to fix that. We know it's a mess and if the client wants, we move to supported, supportable configurations.

OK so you've answered a question I had. I can move all my cameras over to the new Century Link router and forget the Linksys WFT. This will make things much simpler to configure?

It could.

There are reasons to run more than one WAP. Mostly because WiFi space is finite. So if you wanted to Netflix over WiFi and there is a lot of camera traffic, well, it could get ugly.
