Wireless printing

May 22, 2005 1:12AM PDT

I have a PIII with win98se, a P4 with win xp home which are network wired with a Dlink wireless router and share printer and files. I want to add a wireless laptop with win xp home to the system so I can share the same printer a HP. I would like to know what are the steps to follow for setting up the wireless laptop in order to share the printer.
Thank you for your time.

You need a wireless access point

to connect to the router. That or you can start over and get a wireless router. I decided to go with the access point and it works great. Your notebook will need either an external or internal wireless card. Once everything is installed, go through the network setup with the notebook.

Be sure to share something, have the same network name, adjust your firewall settings and it should connect. The only problem I had was I didn't change ZoneAlarm's settings to allow the network. Once that was changed, the network setup was complete. You will need to add the network printer just like you did for the other computers.

Thank you for your answer. I already have a wireless router and the laptop has a built in wireless so the only thing left to do is to configure it.Here I would like to have some input.
Thanks

How did you set up the other computers?

You need to add the notebook to the network. Once it is added, I used the network wizard that comes with XP and followed the instructions, I added the printer. That is done through add a printer in the control panel or the network places. The printer and computer it is connected to must be turned on for it to work.
