This is not an offer to walk anyone through to the right settings.
On the WIFI setup screen I noticed by default it was WEP. That's insecure so we changed it to WPA. Also we noticed a POWER SETTING from 1 to 10. It was odd that 10 didn't deliver the best range so we settled on 9.
Hope this helps,
I just bought a new laptop. It is an Acer Aspire Timeline. It seems to be good. I also bought a new router from ATT. IT is the 2wire router. All indications are that the laptop recognizes the network all the time. But, most of the time, I either can't connect to the internet or I connect and get shut off. I called ATT and we walked through the router settings and they are correct. I figured they were since the laptop is connected to the network. At first, I thought that maybe there was a firewall problem causing me to not connect, so I disabled all firewalls. The ATT person also suggested that my cordless phone could be interfering, so I moved it. Sometimes it will connect to the internet and stay on for about an hour and then just stop. Occasionally, I can get it back on by disconnecting and reconnecting. One time, I got it to connect by powering down the router and starting over. Connecting an ethernet cable to the laptop causes it to work fine, but what's the point of wireless if you have to do that.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
