In order to set up the wireless network you'll need one wireless router (an example) and 5 wireless-G PCI adapters (an example), assuming that all 6 computers are PCs. (Most laptops already have wireless built-in, so you shouldn't to buy a card for them.)
You'll connect the internet source (cable/DSL) to the modem, the modem to the router, and the router to the primary, or a, computer. (This one will be hard-wired to the modem.) For each of the other computers you'll pop in a PCI adapter so that they can access the network wirelessly. Of course for every PC close to the router you can connect (wired), the more you'll save since you won't have to buy as many wireless adapters.
The user manuals will explain how to install/connect the hardware, install the software, and set everything up. Just make sure you pay attention to the notations on security/encryption, as you don't want people eavesdropping on your connection, browsing your files, and using your internet for who knows what.
Hope this helps,
John
I am trying to set up a WIRELESS network for my small business at home.
I have 6 PCs with Window XP Professional.
I mainly interested in file sharing & internet sharing with broadband.
Can someone please suggest an economical & efficient way of setting up the network?
And what sort of hardware I need?
As my computing knowledge is rather limited please keep your answer simple.
