wireless networking

hi. I started a discussion last month on wireless networking, further to that discussion I have more enquiries on the subject. At the moment I have a desktop running windows xp connecting to a wireless router which then connects to the internet. Connected wirelessly to the router is my laptop, also running xp home. I can access the internet via both systems but can't access shared files on the desktop through my laptop. Have I done something wrong?
The desktop also has a wireless pci adapter if that is needed. thanks in advance.

for network shares not being available are:

1) Firewalls blocking access to the LAN
2) Workgroup names not the same
3) File and Print Sharing not enabled.
