You needed to connect directly to the router to do the configuration. Then you enable the radio and go with all the defaults. Some will disable SSID broadcast which promptly sends most people into a hard tailspin to some tech support.
After it's setup, unplug the wired connection and reboot the laptop.

I bought a microsoft wireless base station (MN-700) this summer when I bought a new laptop. I was hoping to be able to hook up the base station to my cable modem and roam the house with the laptop. During setup, it connects to the base station just fine, but when I unplug it from the laptop so that it is a stand-alone item, it says there is no connection available. The integrated wireless of the laptop is turned on, but it doesn't pick up the base station. Is it possible to set up this product in this manner? I think it would definitely work if I were connecting the base station to a desktop PC (like they show in the directions)and then trying to connect to the base station through the wireless laptop....but I don't have a desktop at my disposal. Microsoft online help has been anything but helpful, and I don't want to pay for customer service/technical support if this won't work in the end anyway. Any suggestions? Please?
