wireless internet to HDTVs with internet capability

Feb 17, 2011 7:22AM PST

I plan to purchase two LCD HDTVs with Internet capability. My Internet provider is Verizon via a modem wired to the phone line. In a remote room, one of my three Windows-XP PCs has wireless access to the Internet; the others are wire-connected to the modem near the telephone jack in a different room.

My question: after buying the HDTVs, what setup (e.g. equipment, configuration, etc.) do I need for the TVs to have wireless Internet access?

That really depends on the make and model of the TV.

So better ask the sales person in the TV-shop to show the TV he wants to sell you and the wireless gadgets he wants to sell you work flawlessly together doing what you want to do with Internet on the TV once it's installed with you.

If he can't do that either means it can't be done or the shop is incompetent. Both would be a good reason to look elsewhere.

OK, thanks. I plan to buy Sony, Samsung, LG, or Panasonic HDTVs.

What do you expect with the internet on TV?

Why I ask is that many are expecting what they get on a PC. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Expectations: Movies, other material such as recent/available HBO and ABC series episodes.

That is all over the map.

And can vary with COUNTRY too!

I don't see ABC.com content playing on today's internet TVs. This is a great example where the problem lies. Folk are expecting the full PC experience and it is not there.
