Wireless internet and router problems....

I live in the middle of now where. The closest we have to high speed internet is wireless internet. I am trying to hook up my network so I can share the internet with my laptop via my wireless network. I have a Dell Truemoblie router 1184 and Expedience Broadband Wireless Access Modem. I am not sure if my router will support this or not. Every time I plug the modem into the router the modem stops working. Is my router out dated? If so what type or router will work?
