Depends on the number of access points are already in place. From what your saying, doesnt' sound like there are that many. You could easily put in a wireless access point / wireless router. All you have to do to make sure you don't interfere with campus equipment is make sure you are using a different channel, don't broadcast the SSID, and don't run DHCP on it. Your signal won't be stepping on campus wireless signal, since you can't get the signal from campus wireless access points.

hi, my college just upgraded from whatever wireless they had tp 802.11g, problem is, that is on the first floor, im on the 4th(top floor)on the other end of the building on this floor in some spots i can pick it up with my laptop, i owuld like to have wireless so i can work in the lounge on my side of the building or in my room without the cat 5 cable, we are allowed to have wireless routers if they dont interfere with the campus network, is there such a thing? a router i could have plugger into the lan in my room that wouldnt interfere with the universities 802.11g? or is there an antenna that we could buy and fasten to the router downstairs? i think a cantenna would be too focused, if there was one we could use so the netire dorm could have the new wireless people might pitch in to get it, and my laptop card is an integrated 803.11b/g, running xp pro, could i get another card that has an out for antenna, that kind of defeats the purpose of no cables but wouldnt be as bad, thanks alot!
p.s. i dont have much money
