I've been in similar places and had to fall back on using my cell phone for calls and what not when the internet connection system didn't work out.
That is, I had a backup system to fall back to.

I am staying in a hotel with wireless only. Since I work from "home" I have my router connected through the Ethernet on my computer and my Basic Talk box is plugged into the router. This worked for me fine my last hotel stay and has worked here the last three weeks. However, the other day there was an internet outage and now I cannot get the connection to my phone.
The hotel of course does not provide any assistance as they do not support routers because they want you to pay for each device. Basic Talk does not provide any assistance because you're supposed to be on a wired connection. Since this was working and now is not, I thought perhaps someone could offer some advice as to what I might try.
Basic Talk is as close as I can come to a hardwired connection with the router. I have stayed at the same hotel chain in another city and this worked just fine as it has here for the last three weeks.
