Resolved Question

Wireless adapter not found. Getting this problem a lot now.

May 22, 2012 4:37AM PDT

I've been having this problem for a few weeks, at first I thought it was the internet itself, but the other computers in the house are fine.

A few times a day it just suddenly stops working and in the bottom right hand corner of the screen in the internet options section it says currently connected to : unidentified network. when I click connect again it says wireless adapter not found, "Wireless Network Connection"doesn't have a vailid IP configuration.

Sometimes it can stay off for a lot longer and it's generally random times of the day that it happens.

Only a few known cures.

For less than 8 bucks I toss some USB WiFi stick on it. I've seen folk reload the OS, change the internal WiFi card but can't tell if you did that yet.

Here's the stick I carry in my bag for such calls.

I see there are mini and other versions out there but this one is under 8 bucks to my mail and does not have me driver hunting since Windows 7 stock drivers work.

Beats a repair counter any day.

That looks pretty good, I think I will get 1 no matter what. Sometimes when I'm in a certain room the connection is a bit weak, would the USB stick help with the signal?
But I think it would get annoying after a while, because I have all of the USB ports in use a lot.
I haven't done any of the things you suggested though, when you say reload the OS, do you mean do a complete reinstall? I have been thinking of doing that, this laptop is also extremely slow. I just don't like the idea of having to install everything again, it sounds like it could be a total mess.
I've no idea about changing the WiFi card either. Is it hard?

Thanks.

Sadly I mean a complete wipe and install.

Maybe not such a bad idea though.

I think this computer needs it, way too much junk, this was supposed to be my revolutionary laptop that I keep in absolutely perfect condition, nice and clean, but no I always have to wreck it. Thinking about it now though, there's not very many things I would be very worried about losing, probably about 5 programs, the rest I would get in my free time. Thanks for that link too, I'll defo have a go at that. I think I did try something like that before, I do remember using Mbam anyway.

Thanks.

Sorry about the late reply. I was quite busy for a while.

Just said I'd let ye know that I done a re-install with a disk I had forgotten I had which restores the laptop to factory content. Got the laptop back to the exact state it was when I first used it. And most importantly, the internet problem is gone, and the connection is better than ever.

Cheers.

But it beats the alternative.
