Wireless Access Tower Help.

by life4jacks / December 16, 2007 2:23 AM PST

I have Direcway Satellite internet and the latency is way to bad to play MMOs with it. I have heard that if there is a wireless access tower in my area i can connect to that and have decent latency for playing online games. If anyone has any info about locating a tower in my area, or any other solutions please let me know.

What tower?

You may be thinking of those Cell phone company access cards. That's not what you have.

To see why the latency is so big, calculate how many milliseconds it takes to travel to and from the geostationary satellite you are using.

Adjust latency

I am not familiar with satellite internet but if your service provider uses satellite broadcast, most likely they do not have terrestrial broadcast.

I suggest to adjust your latency so that your connection doesn't time out too soon.

I also have HughesNet. In am currently waiting for my 15 month subsciption to run out. I am switching to a wireless company in my area for the same reason you are, to play multyplayer games. I suggest Googling (your area) wireless internet providers. I did this and found one in my area with better bandwidth at a cheaper price.
