There was time when the WindowsXP Wireless Zero Configuration utility was troublesome with certain hardware. I think that has been solved.
When you have properly configured the profile for that connection, Windows will remember the WEP settings and connect automatically.

Trying to install and configure a wireless connection for my laptop so I can work from home. I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop, Netgear wireless router (802.11 b), and PCMCIA card (basic 14.99 one bought from newegg). We went to the website for Netgear and configured it w/128 bit WEP incryption. Now when I install the software for my PCMCIA card shld I allow Windows to configure automatically or manually do it myself (instructions say automatic but friend of mine said to not set it on automatic)? Also is there a way I can get it to keep the 128 WEP incryption noted in my network settings so I don't have to keep putting it in each time I want to work wirelessly? And, is there anything else I should know or be asking when trying to set this up? Thanks for your help, kind of a rookie w/the whole wireless details![]()
