But what you find on the shelf under 100 bucks will work with a percentage point of each other, since it's now a commodity item.

Any of the Routers you find in stores will do for you. They are usually 4 port routers and also act as a switch for your Local network. Some also have a built-in Firewall. Others have Wireless capabilities too.
Prices vary according to capabilities.
If you don't plan to wireless anything, then any router will work. Apple Extreme (Base Station) acts as a Router but lacks the ports to be called a wired router. It specializes in Wireless Routing.
Brand names for wired routers include Linksys, Netgear and D-Link. All will suit your requirements

hi, I recently bought a netgear dg834 - installs in 5 mins, been perfect ever since & looks pretty!
I have an older eMac, 700 mhz, with Panther, and bought a cheap (the only) wired router they had at Wal-Mart last month. It was a name I didn't recognize?Network Everywhere?but it's really a Linksys. I had a three-year-old router and doubled my connection speed under Jaguar with the new router, then upgraded to Panther and got another speed boost. The best part is that I was able to ignore the CD installation software, just plugging it in, connecting up the cables and letting OS X take care of the rest.
