Wiping my hard drive - Compaq Presario 2100 Windows XP

by jakeomatic / September 7, 2008 8:16 AM PDT

So I'm planning on wiping my hard drive because its totally wasted. Can I get a step by step tutorial on how to wipe it? I'm backing up my computer on an external hard drive just incase..

Also, I have a windows XP disc but I don't know if it will work because I don't know if it will accept the anti-piracy serial number.. Help?

Thanks.

There probably isn't a problem with the serial (I got the laptop as a hand-me-down from a neighbor ;)-I also have driver restore disks, wireless setup, windows update disks so I'm doing pretty good.. I guess I'll go for it :S

Just one more question:

Since I don't have ANYTHING important at all, is it really necessary to back up my computer?

And, is there anything particularly important about this, should I do it myself or have a professional do it?

Why not do it yourself.

I'm seeing 200 bucks to install XP. Why not learn how?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
