Question

Wiping Iphone instructions on CNET article, confusing.

Jun 29, 2018 10:04AM PDT

Saw this

Step 3: Sign out of iCloud completely. Head to Settings > iCloud and find Sign Out at the bottom of the page. For iOS 10.3 and later, Settings > Your name > Sign Out. For iOS 7 devices, choose Delete Account.

Note: if you delete all your data manually without signing out of iCloud, it will also delete the content from iCloud as well -- which is something you definitely don't want.

PER ABOVE I need step by step how to do this so I do NOT wipe Icloud per the warning. I have another Iphone, X, which is connected to Icloud and I want to sell my old Iphone but when wiping it dont want to delete info from the cloud and need to be told how to do it step by step. Please.

Clarification Request
If I was going to sell my phone, I'd just factory reset it.

Thanks, CNET has an article recommending a great more to it to be very safe. I am sure doing it your way or their way would make sure I lost nothing but per the CNET article it also could leave traces on the phone you dont want to leave, thus this rather extensive way of doing it they suggest.

Within that suggestion I think they are saying SIGN OUT of Icloud FIRST then you can manually delete info but I dont know what info they mean

And now I dont know what if any harm comes if I back up this 6sPlus which has sat in a drawer for 6 months...That I have a new phone that is a X that has all my info on it, my cloud has all my info on it, so if I back up an old phone with much LESS current data on it, does that at all mess the info on my new phone or cloud?

I know I am making this harder than it needs to be, but the article got me going.

I was in, maybe the same situation.

But as I had nothing to back up on the phone I went for the factory reset. Since it was not on WiFi (I had it forget all networks) and no SIM there was no way it could affect what was in the cloud.

Remember, I knew i was going to sell it so factory condition is in my opinion, best condition.
Apple's factory reset and how they secure the storage inside the phone meant I had nothing to worry about leaking private information after a factory reset.

I removed sim card earlier this morning due to the article

suggesting I do so.

And then I came to these other questions.

I guess all I need to do is sign out of the cloud on the phone and do the erase all content and settings.

So, Factory Reset?

If you just erase content and settings another way I would worry the phone had leftover information.
