WinXP boots slow

Nov 16, 2003 2:08PM PST

fresh install of WinXP Pro on a buddy's computer. and now his system boots up slowwww as hell. after POST and BIOS check...screen goes black for a few seconds...then i get a little white loading bar at the bottom of the screen.

it takes like 5+ minutes to boot up to the user selection screen. not the system either.

WD 30gb (old)

it looks like the little white loading bar that you get when you are installing XP. i already have the SP1 update and many other updates installed including the motherboard and video card.

any help would be appreciated. im stumped on this one.

Check out these links on Troubleshooting Windows XP Startup Problems

Did you do a clean install or an upgrade from Win98?

Did you check on the motherboard's site to see if there is any BIOS update to support XP's ACPI?
