1. The usual Word cure-all? Find, delete NORMAL.DOT, run Word again.

2. Uninstall and reinstall Word.

3. It is possible to have documents that can't be opened on DOS based Windows. Try http://www.openoffice.org

I'm having the same problem. Did you get a response?

Many posts never hear back from the person that got their fix because they got their fix.

The Word cure-all of deleting NORMAL.DOT helps most.

Try it.

I get "winword has caused an error in SIS.DLL" then shuts down. I've repair/reinstall my 2000 Professional, but get same message. Ideas?

You didn't tell if you tried the usual. As such, I see no reason to try anything else.

I found the dll quarantined in my spy killer (or whatever it's called). It's also quarantined on my wife's laptop, but she's not having any problems opening Word. I tried to replace my file with a copy of hers, but got a message saying that it couldn't be done because Windows was using it. Any idea where it should go, because I can just put it back where it belongs.

Look up MOVEONBOOT at google.com if you want to kill off a file that is locked.

Winword problem.

I have had trouble with winword for a long time. My resolution is to do a ctrl-alt-del, look for winword and click on End task. then I can go back to Microsoft word 2000 and it works OK

Hi. I would save all your word documents to diskettes, a pen drive or cds. Then, I'd uninstall Word and reinstall. Let me know if that works.
