Winword.exe Problems

by PhuCat67 / October 10, 2005 2:15 AM PDT

Recently (as of 10/8/2005) I have encountered a problem with "Winword.exe)Every time I attempt to open Microsoft Word 2000 I get a message saying it has encountered a problem and must close. And the problem is "Winword.exe which is supposed to be the exacutable file to open the application. I've been using this word processer for 18 months without any problems. From the little researcg I've done so far I've discovered that "Winword.exe"my be some type of virus or malware. In other words the orginal exacutable file has been taken over. I do know I had my word processer open and was online when the problemm occuured. Virus scans and Spybot have found nothing. I reinstaled Microsoft Word 2000 and stil have the same problem,it won't open and I can't use it. Like I said I'm not sure if it's a virus or what but from what I've read so far I'm not alone and it whatever is doing this has just started recently. If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts on this I'd really appreciate it.

PhuCat67, Do a search for files for Normal.dot When you find it rename it to Oldnormal.dot then restart your computer and see if the problem is corrected. A new Normal.dot file will be created at the restart.
