Wine and health ... what's a woman to do?

Mar 30, 2010 10:10AM PDT

It's a vexing problem. Just what ARE the long term effects of alcohol use?

Now there's an interesting new study that raises the possibility that light/moderate wine intake may help women prevent weight gain. But it comes at a possible cost:

Light Drinking Might Help Keep Women Slim
Previous evidence on the health benefits of alcohol have been mixed. Some research has found that men and, to a lesser extent, women who drink moderately over the long-term have a lower risk for heart disease.

But another study found that even moderate drinking might raise the risk for breast, liver and other cancers in women.

Actually, I don't think it's just one study that suggests a link between alcohol and breast cancer. And don't forget about all of the other potential adverse effects of alcohol.

Ah well, we'll all probably be dead by the time the dust settles on this subject. I wonder if there are any good orange juice/wine combinations I can drink to go with that rare steak?

Or maybe a mimosa?

I like Sangria but it may not have enough orange juice so I might save it for sipping some other time. The mimosa sounds just about right for this. I wonder how well steak and mimosa pair?

Eat for enjoyment of life
Mar 30, 2010 4:00PM PDT

There are too many ways to die young unexpectedly not even related to diet, so eat and enjoy. What, wait till you're old to eat what you want, and then not be able to? That's about as sad as a virgin getting married at age 60, it's not what they avoided that counts then, but what they missed out on when times were best. Everyone dies, it's a terminal fact of life, so eat and be merry.
