Here's a few on this boot CD.
If you can replace the drive yourself, figure under 100 bucks USD for a new drive.
I have an hp laptop with windows xp and a 60 gig seagate hd. Yesterday I loaded the windows media enocoder from the microsoft website. I was converting a video when the computer froze.
So i restarted the computer. When I start the computer it will get as far as the black windows xp screen then it gets hung up there. After a good while the computer will automatically restart.
It wont boot in safe mode, last known good configuration doesnt work either.
So i decided to try the windows cd. I first tried recovery console. None of the commands will work for me because it wont let me access the hard drive, i tried running chkdsk, it wont run, i tried the fix boot command. nothing works. When I went into the command for the partitions, it shows the drive, and the space taken up. I tried reformatting the drive with the recovery console with no luck.
So I decided to go into the installation part of the the cd because of the repair option. Well it doesnt even give me an option to repair. I read somewhere that when it doesnt give you the option to repair that means your drive is too corrupt.
So where does that leave me?
Any help at all is greatly appreciated :-D
