Windows XP won't let me log OFF

Jul 23, 2007 4:29AM PDT

I use a PC at my County Library for accessing a well known "family history site"
I log ON....I log OFF.....OK!
Days later, using the same PC I find, on calling up that web site....I am logged ON !!
I delete Cookies, Recent and Temp Internet files after use. But still find that I'm logged ON next time around.......what am I missing ?? any help please.

I would be a little concerned about this.

It seems to me that the cookies for the site you visit are not being deleted when you close the browser session down. Do you close the browser down, or do you leave it running when you have finished your session?

This is not a "Windows XP won't let me log off" problem. This is a problem for the computer's administrator and your first point of call should be that person.

You didn't mention what OS or browser you are using. Have you selected any options at the site that are intended to keep you logged in?

When you are finished with any that requires login, always close the actual browser window(s) you are using to access the site.

Try deleting Cookies. Or go to Start > Control Panel
> Internet Options > Privacy > Select Override > Block > Block > Always allow session Cookies > OK > OK. However, these strategies may cause problems accessing or logging into other sites.

Are you sure there is no Log-off option at the site. At many sites the log-off button or link may be very small or otherwise inconspicuous. Are other site members able to log-ff? if so, ask them how.

In any case, it is probably a problem caused by the web site designer. Or if the site is hosted by one of the many free hosts, then the host is very likely the designer of the site/page template that was used to create the site. Contact this host and ask for assitance.

Hope this has been of some help.
