Windows XP with SP2 locks up at the

by jhall49 / September 14, 2004 2:12 PM PDT

When trying to start windows XP, HP laptop, with windows xp home, and service pack two installed, the screen locked up at the "Welcome" screen. I had to re-format the Hard dirve, and then things went ok. I could not even get to "Safe Mode". My question is has anyone else had this problem and were able to get rid of it with out a re-format? Was it a virus? Could I have gotten past this with the Norton rescue disk? I hated losing all the info on my hard drive. Am I still at risk and should I do anything more?

Thank you for your help in advance! Jon

I installed service pack 2 on my Toshiba Laptop two weeks ago. I also had a problem. I got past the Welcome screen and then it said..."bad disk"
I called Toshiba Support and they had to put in a new hard drive.
My nephew who is in college studying computers said he thought it could be a virus,.....Toshiba told me they didn think it was service pack 2.

They fixed it...seems to be fine. am afraid to put service pack 2 on again. Sharon

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
