Windows xp will not boot.

by bc2005 / August 14, 2010 5:29 AM PDT

I suspect I may have a hardware problem, but I really didn't know where to post a question, so I will start here. I have a 6 year old Dell destop running Win xp home edition. On a recomendation, I ran a check disk scan from the control panel prompt. The scan ran on the next restart, after the scan, the screen went blank. It will not boot. I tried booting from safe mode and all other options, no boot. Unfortunatly I don't have a recovery disk. Is it worth fixing? Thanks for your help.

does the bios screen come up? If the bios loads, you may still have something to work with. It's just a matter of getting the XP installation disk and either running a repair or reinstalling the entire operating system.

Forgive my ignorance, I just researched what is BIOS, and yes it does load. I took a look at that on one of my attempts to boot, so I need to get my hands on a recovery cd and try to restore windows?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
