Windows XP video trouble

Nov 28, 2004 2:57AM PST

I have a P4 laptop with WindowsXP installed and the following (slightly odd) trouble:
When I try to watch a video (windows media, Realvideo) or try to play a simple avi file, I only hear the sound (so black screen). If I keep this (sound only) video running and start up another video file, I can see the second video without any problem. So the only way to watch a video is by strating up some other video first... Does anybody know this problem? As soon as I can see the second video, I can easily stop the first one by the way, the second keeps the screen. But as soon as I stop and restart the second video, the view is gone again... very annoying...

Did you install the needed CODEC?

Microsoft will NOT do this for us.

Try the DIVX codec from http://www.moviecodec.com

Also, look up "MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC" on google.com since I have NO CURE for WMP issues.

Yes I did, but no improvement, pitty but thanks for answering. I found out that XP can show me a preview still when I click once on a file (on the left side in a standard XP folder).
