Windows XP update failed

by Alan Copeland / May 24, 2007 8:26 AM PDT

I tried to download and install the latest XP update (Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.18.2621.7), and it failed three times. Has anyone else had this problem?

I forgot to include the pertinent stuff. Where Windows normally shows how many updates were successsful, it simply said the download was unsuccessful.

This happened on two PCs, an HP3.06Ghz w/1.5GB Ram running XP Home, and an HP 2.83 w/ 512MB Ram running XP Home. I had a problem a year or so back, but it was a documented MS issue. I just updated both machines eralier this week with no trouble. Just for fun, I disabled my Kerio firewall and AVG, but it didn't help.

I'll look into this ASAP. I am pretty sure I have the current edition, and I did an update to Defender earlier this week.

In reply to: Thanks

I have the latest version, dated 5/23/07. I called a friend, and his PCs didn't update either, so it's not just the voices in my head. I suspect MS will get on this as soon as they figure out they have a problem.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
