Windows XP, to remove programs from startup only! Help please.

Mar 14, 2004 10:18PM PST

Hi, although I have had Windows XP home edition for over a year, there are lots of things I do not know and one in particular I need help with soon. I went from Windows 98 to XP and can not find how to do something I could do in Win 98.

In Win 98, you could go to system tools and uncheck or stop things from starting up automatically at startup by checking them (or unchecking them) and then when you rebooted they would not start up. I am unable to find how to do this in Windows XP. There is a program I wanted to stop from automatically starting up, but not remove completely off my pc.

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,
slucius

I have a question about msconfig...

I would LOVE to uncheck about thirty of those, however, how do I know which ones I can? what is essential and what is just there if you want it, as I only want what is needed.
thanks so much!!

Click START and select RUN. A new window will open and type MSCONFIG then enter. Check and uncheck programs that you want to execute on Startup.
