XP has coughed up that 0x24 on install and there was nothing wrong with the hardware except one thing. No one had the install plan for that machine and since XP doesn't support SATA the install bombs out.
And Microsoft does document 0x24 all over, even in Windows 2000 such as http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/prork/prhd_exe_ebam.mspx?mfr=true
If you didn't find these and more you may want to try a new search tool.
Q. Can anyone help?
A. Not sure. No make, model, EXACT VERSION OF XP (it better be a SP2 CD!) and the rest of the story.
Am getting stop error 0x0000024 when trying to boot XP. I have the disks but when I try to restore, it hangs after running through all the installation sequence. The Microsoft site doesn't reference this stop error in XP at all - only in Vista. I'd be happy to wipe the drive and start over, as I have the XP installation disks and a full backup - but can't figure out how to do that since I can't get into Windows. Can anyone help? Thanks much.
