windows xp reinstall

have reinstalled xp service pack 2 and now cant initialise any updates ?

Your post is far too light on details. For instance one owner installed a firewall and set it to MAXIMUM PROTECTION since they had some trojan that wiped them out and thought by setting it to the maximum would be best. Oops, that was it.

But in your case there is nothing to work with. No messages, warnings or what you've done since you installed windows.

all i have done is reinstall xp to cure a slow loading prob wich it did not do i have altered no settings and my security is pc chillin from trend micro it gas been running for 3 months i get no error messages it just say failed to install after downloading them got a mag wich shows how to repair xp but you lose all your files was trying to avoid all that even run a diagnostic programme but it says all is working ok you would think that microsoft would have a repair download for xp

Since nothing but XP SP2 and AV is installed...

I'd look to all the drivers that are not on Microsoft's CD next.

In this order:

1. Motherboard chipset support drivers.
2. Video, audio drivers.

Your post is still quite light.
