Windows XP Pro and modem cards

Feb 22, 2004 2:06PM PST

Hello, I have not been able to use a modem pci card with my new windows xp pro. I have replaced all old video and sound cards with cards that have drivers that work with xp. but, when I insert a new pci modem card that has xp drivers, xp hangs as soon as I try to send a command to the modem.

I have searched the web groups with no success.
I have looked at the registry and discovered several installs for modems.

My modem card is a Supra SUP2751
Supramax56i Voice PCI v.92

thanks
sprovost

This issue is often when an user installs XP on a laptop and either or both the BIOS is not ready for XP or the drivers for the motherboard are not installed (or even available.)

I'd comment more, but the make/model of the laptop was not noted.

In closing, the modem drivers are not the responsibility of Microsoft, so don't call them on this or the BIOS/Motherboard drivers.

Try removing all instances of the previous installs of the modem from the Device Manager then shutdown and remove the modem.

Restart the PC and check that no references to the modem exists in Device Manager, shut down and then insert the PCI Modem in a different PCI slot and reinstall the drivers.

Failing that try another modem.

Thanks to David and R for their replys. I have done card swapping, pci slot moving, to no avail. I decided to buy an external usb modem to get moving along.
